"SPEAKING IN TONGUES"

Immersive 8 Channel Installation

2025

DUBLIN, IRELAND

Unit 44, Dublin, Ireland

"SPEAKING IN TONGUES" is an 8-channel sound installation presented as part of the kirkos_ensemble series of spatial music concerts and workshops in Unit 44, Dublin presenting new spatial works on SAT 11th Jan, 2025.

The piece is a sound art piece consisting of strings of phonemes randomly triggered by use of an arpeggio running through a probability gate.

Phonemes were performed by Anna Flynn & the composer and are supported by a subtle shifting ensemble part.

The aim is for listeners, through the effect of Pareidolia, to find meaningful interpretations within the 8-channel array, potentially perceiving a word, pattern, or sentence from the sequences of phonemes, similar to how one might recognize a melody from a dripping tap or a rhythm from falling rain.

It is possible that any language heard may be specially meaningful those those who 'hear' it. Due to proximity effecting what is heard no two listeners can have the same experience.

In conjunction with the concerts kirkos_ensemble will also be running a series of workshops, led by Sebastian Adams, about creating spatialised audio.

Running on Saturdays, spread out between December to March 2025. Each of the 5 concerts is preceded by a workshop in the afternoon. There will then be 2 additional workshops in March, with the possibility of further concerts depending on the amount of participants making new work at the workshops.
