Curated by Wilfried Agricola de Cologne, The New Museum of Networked Art realizing the Anthropocene Project as a new media art context in an exchange between virtual and physical space, physical and virtual exhibitions and screenings.
At a Berlin flea-market in 2017, I bought some curious 1/4” tapes containing amateur recordings made shortly after WWII of various church bells.
Many of the bells are no longer existent and it is possible that these recordings represent the only audio record of these lost artefacts. Another, almost completely decayed tape-reel contained barely decipherable orchestral recordings of unknown original, likely recorded in the 1950s.
From these materials I created tape-loops and collaged the results into a sound narrative evocative of the emotions one feels when reminded of once celebrated customs and cultures all but lost to time, apathy and decay.
